BiographyHools Kay (they/them) is a creative chameleon, dedicated to supporting the work of those who feel erased from mainstream media. Their journey began at St. Lawrence College, studying musical theatre, before honing their comedic skills at The Second City conservatory program in Toronto. Hools’ impressive portfolio of original content includes producing and writing two digital series, Female Therapy and Penny for Your Thoughts. Their short film #BasicBaes earned them 9 awards and 13 nominations.
They leverage their award-winning theatrical creations, such as Drink Of Choice, Getting Odd, and LOL LOL Land, to cultivate an audience, strategically transitioning their work to the screen for even greater impact and reach. In 2019, Hools wrote and produced a theatre show, Drink of Choice, that won Patron’s Pick at the Toronto Fringe Festival, which was later remounted at the Factory Theatre for a 22-show run season. From the success of Drink of Choice emerged the script for the short film Aced It, which has been selected for six festivals so far, with plans in place to develop it into a full series. Hools is highly adaptable and committed to creativity, as seen by their hosting of the radio show Aced It on Alphabet Radio (UK) during the pandemic, and their contribution to the published novel A Stage Light Flickers, offering a unique perspective on creativity in a global crisis. Currently working on the series version of Aced It, hoping one day that title can be written on their tombstone. Hools is constantly curious where their career and life will take her next, but in the meantime they enjoy a good cup of coffee from an indie hipster coffee joint, and cuddling her sweet fur-baby Mrs. Lola Peanutbutter. |
